Nasser bin Ghanim Al-Khelaifi was appointed as chairman of the European Club Association earlier today.
The decision follows an unprecedented series in the European Super League. Instead of joining the league, in which any club or player faced severe restrictions imposed by the UEFA for doing so, Al-Khilafah instead rejected the proposal and with the support of the European Union. Also, supported the UEFA by announcing a new format for the Champions League.
In addition to Al-Khalifa's appointment as chairman, Bayern Munich's director of legal affairs, human resources and institutional relations, representing subdivision 1, has been appointed the first vice chairman of the European Club Association.
Al-Khalafi emphasized that his purpose as chairman was to support the interests of the association, which included his strong commitment to the football community, through clubs and, more importantly, club fans. At the same time, al-Khilafah stressed the importance of uniting for the purpose of the game.
